THE ART OF CONSISTENT DISCIPLINE | THE 75 HARD CHALLENGE

before i spill my guts — just say ‘yes, i am in!’ + let’s conquer this together :)

i don’t really celebrate the typical new year as my ‘new year’ is represented by my solar return, which luckily for me is 26th days into what many resonate with as their new year. i avoid making a laundry list of goals because usually during this holiday season my emotions are all over the place —

especially if i am spending it in a blistery cold winter destination. this past nye — i was drowning, but since have resurfaced and i am loving the innergy residing within.

since the start of 2022 i knew that i wanted to focus on consistency + discipline. as a creator + free spirit i am often starting a ton of projects and leaving them to collect dust midway. i find myself overworking until complete burnout and then ghosting any and everything that sucked the life out of me. i am so tired of operating in this unbalanced type of lifestyle. i am doing everything i can to change the course of my morning routines, but lately i have been finding myself really off the charts with my sleep schedule.

so … of course i am going to push myself to do something about all of this mess i am dealing with lol. the little ounce of capricorn in me requires some sort of structure to balance out my aquarian free spirit. the last 40 days i have been dedicated to logging onto instagram to cheer on amirah cook, affectionately known as @indefinitehoneymoon, laying from the comfort of my cozy bed and rolling over for another snooze after seeing that she has completed another day of the 75 hard challenge. subconsciously i kept telling myself to join in on the challenge with her when she started — but honestly it was just too much for me during that season of my life — so i opted for giving myself grace.

whelp! grace has run it’s course and now it is time to get to it. yes! in the middle of winter in chicago i am going to commit to doing the 75 hard challenge [i seriously don’t know what i am getting myself into, but i figured if i can show up for myself now — then the heavy weight will be lifted for when i truly need to be there for myself]. if you know me you know that i really truly hate [yes — hate!] cold weather. i suffer from raynaud’s syndrome and the best place for me to live and thrive are tropical places, but here we are in the windy city.

so what’s my goals for the 75 hard challenge?

  • i WANT to focus on SOMETHING that is tailored to my mind + body + soul

  • my goal isn’t weight loss of any kind, but if i did tone up a bit i would be a happy camper

  • for me it is really about building my mental strength + following through on things i AM committed to despite whatever circumstance that the day may through my way

  • honestly, i would like to form a better relationship with food [grocery shopping + food preparation + cooking] — right now i am at a 4/10 [i really just don’t like the process of it all — i literally would go without eating because i don’t even feel like trying to figure out what to eat. smh!

what’s the 4-1-1 on the 75 hard challenge?

the rules are simple, but can be challenging if we don’t intentionally prepare and set our mind on it. so i am giving you a 4 days notice to go get your sh*t together. ps. don’t worry i will be sharing some tips in my next blog on how i plan to prepare for this amazing journey.

…some inspirational messages because i feel like we’re going to need these gentle reminders to get us through the 75 hard challenge!

so here is the inside scoop aka the rules of the 75 hard challenge!

  1. workout 2x a day for a duration of 45 minutes each — but one workout has to take place outside

    • i injured myself last may and called myself taking time off to heal my hamstring — if ‘lazy’ were a person it would be me. that ‘time off’ turned into an entire 9 months — ps. shhh! i was doing so well with my 7 day be inspired workout challenge — so i am so happy to get moving again with my tribe, but a sis ain’t looking forward to doing any type of physical activity outside for 45 minutes in the middle of a chicago winter — wth! …whose bright idea was this?!

  2. drink 1 gallon of water

    • i love love love water. not sure why i haven’t been drinking much lately, but i am here for the challenge. i will say that of course when i am more active i tend to consume more hydration — so i am really looking forward to those workouts kicking my butt so i can indulge in some h2o. also, i recently learned that i have a tiny fibroid — at first i didn’t think much of it, but now i am wondering if it is the reason i tend to have frequent urination off of the slightest sip of water, which i another reason why i stopped drinking so much — i hate using public restrooms.

  3. read 10 pages of a book

    • this has been a goal of mine for a good 6 years. i wanted to read one book a month, but to be honest reading isn’t ‘my thing’, but i still want to try to read a few books a year.

  4. eat a healthy diet

    • i love eating healthy [i transitioned my diet to become a vegetarian in 2016 and now i am a vegan], but can get on a swing of eating a ton of sweets — thanks mom! she loves to bring home yummy treats from all of her events and sometimes it is just hard to say no [send help]!

  5. no alcohol + no cheat meals

    • done and done. i just celebrated 1 year and 4 days of being completely sober — and no i do not miss alcohol — after i detoxed for a year in 2019 i tried alcohol again and it made my stomach hurt badly — y’all it is like poison. i literally gives me the bubble guts the next morning lol!

  6. take a progress picture daily

    • easy peezy — if i can find time to move some content from my phone to my external drive to make more space for storage — as ‘my phone is full’ is the story of my life! #dontjudgeme
